Course Descripton 

Develop technical packages

  • Develop a complete specification package, including technical sketches, construction detail call-outs, points of measure, measurements, tolerances, grade rules, bill of materials and any predefined performance standards for multiple styles of garments.

  • Evaluate prototypes and communicate changes in a visual language

  • Evaluate garments to determine compliance of spec, construction, fit intent, product design, styling/aesthetic, and performance standards.

  • Conduct fit sessions in person and in a virtual format.

  • Check both the completed sample and pattern for accuracy.

  • Identify potential production, quality, costing, and design issues and make appropriate recommendations.

  • Use strong communication skills to work through specification, construction, or fabrication issues with potential vendors.

  • Analyze garment quality, construction methods and finishing relative to fabric, quality, cost and performance.

  • Use CAD Software

  • Microsoft Xcel

  • Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat)

  • Optitex PDS 12

  • Create garment patterns, markers, and 3D visualizations of garments using Optitex.

FIT ADJUSTMENT

Using the Optitex pattern making software we were required to fit, assess, and adjust samples to our measurements

TECHNICAL GARMENT

Our challenge for this final group project was to focus on coming up with a technical design that is missing in the current market. Our group came up with a binder for the FTM (female to male) market. Through surveys, interviews, and a focus group we compiled research to come up with a binder that was comfortable and functional for this market. A few issues we combatted was that when working out, binders would show. By creating a tank top that has a built in binder we made working out possible for the FTM market. Most binders are very restricting and dangerous to exercise in but with our mesh backing and adjustable strap, we made working out and wearing a binder possible.
