Patternmaking: Projects

GATSBY GLAMOUR

Taking inspiration from architectural photos and using WGSN.com, I implemented the metallic and sharp angles that I found from these photos into my designs. Keeping in mind silhouettes that were classic and timeless, I sketched a few ideas.

PROCESS

I chose to create a sleek trouser with welted pockets and a mini skirt with side pockets. Both tops have smaller collars which I found was common in the 20's. After creating my muslin samples, I trouble shot issues and adjusted them for the final sample.

FINAL SAMPLES

Picking out fabric was fun for me, however working with the fabrics I chose was a challenge. Both tops incorporate velvet and boucle fabric. The weave of the lamé fabric on the pants was difficult to sew with because the fabric wanted to unravel. I also had issues on the collars of both designs, so before going into production I would need to do another sample in muslin.
